Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician shall perform the following procedures, as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols set forth by the MTF to include, but will not necessarily be limited to the following:
  • Works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and performs technical support work in any or all of the following pharmacy functional areas-outpatient, inpatient, support, or clinical pharmacy services.
  • Answers routine inquiries from doctors, nurses, and other staff members on such matters as classification of drugs in stock, new drugs on order, and dosage forms of drugs available in the pharmacy.
  • Receives requests for refill or new prescription orders and verifies patients' eligibility for services.
  • Annotates action taken on prescription hardcopy to ensure that the prescription clearly portrays the action taken when necessary to add or change information on a prescription, as indicated by the authorizing health care provider.
  • Prepares labels for new and refill prescriptions, adds new drugs to the inventory, prepares daily reports of prescription volumes, weekly Drug Utilization reports, patient profiles, and adds or edits patients to the database.
  • Reads prescriptions and determines the kind, strength, and dosage of drug to be dispensed. Correlates instruction on order with pharmacy policy. If required, annotates the prescription to assure compliance with dispensing limitation.
  • Sets up prescriptions by obtaining correct stock container, counting or pouring correct amounts of medication, and placing medication in appropriate container.
  • Bulk compounds, prepackages, and labels a full range of products according to formula cards, or special instructions.
  • Prepares computer labels for prepackaging purposes and assures that the manufacturer, lot number and expiration date is correct.
  • Inventories and orders supplies ensuring that the appropriate stock levels are maintained.
  • Works along clinical pharmacists and provides administrative and technical support to arrange for patient encounters, aggregates and collects important patient and drug information to be reviewed by the pharmacist and prepares data collection with the use of computer systems.
  • Performs narcotic inventories and maintains perpetual inventory while assigned to narcotic area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program and possess one (1) year of experience in a pharmacy may be substituted if work is of an equivalent nature.
  • All Pharmacy Technician shall possess and maintain current certification in at least one (1) state or territory in the US.
  • Minimum one (1) year of successful clinical practice within the past five year.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
  • Shall have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Certification must be by American Heart Associationclip_image001.png.
