Athletic Trainer- HPO- Klamath Falls, Oregon



Reef Systems is seeking a certified athletic trainer to support the 173rd Fighter Wing.


Background:

The Contractor shall serve as an Athletic Trainer for the 173rd FW, who will be responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, management, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. The Contractor shall utilize a range of principles and methodologies to provide examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and outcome assessment for assigned personnel to include but not limited to operational provision of care associated with individual assessments, injury prevention and human performance interventions of musculoskeletal conditions in support of personnel readiness


Tasks:
 
  • Develop, collaborate, and implement a program alongside the S&C Coach with a focus on holistic and long-term health versus physical performance.
  • Screen for risk factors that would increase the risk of injury/illness. These screening procedures must include flexibility and mobility assessments, muscular strength and endurance assessments, cardiovascular fitness assessments, postural and ergonomic assessment, and body composition assessments.
  • Utilize manual therapy and modalities for the treatment, rehabilitation, and optimization of Aircrew. Evaluate and treat aircrew with acute or chronic complaints within the scope of practice, including soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization/manipulation, therapeutic modalities, and therapeutic treatments. These services must be provided within 48 hours of request, contingent upon the patient's availability for treatment.
  • Implement neck and spine strengthening protocols that are evidence-based and specific to aircrew. These protocols will be based on both subjective and objective measures of spine health; measurements could include Oswestry Disability Index, SF-36, Neck Disability Index, Sorenson test, and neck isometric strength. These measurements are to be predetermined, research validated, related to the needs of high +Gz aircrew, and consistent with current rehabilitation and performance best practice.
  • Complete all unit and MTF in-processing requirements, to include computer-based trainings as required by the Department of Defense, Air Force, or the MTF training, on-line Relias health training, Genesis training, peer review, newcomer's orientation and other job specific training’s which could include simulations and other hands-on training opportunities/assessments.
  • Collaborate with Strength and Conditioning Coach to provide each aircrew member seeking prehab/prevention services an initial performance evaluation within one week of the request
  • Ensure patient privacy is respected and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements
  • Monitor access to care and employ electronic systems, software programs, and databases for patient care documentation and administrative responsibilities (i.e. Mandatory 72hr MHS Genesis patient entries).


Mandatory Minimum Requirements:
 
  • Must show recency within the last 2 years consistent with DHAPM. AND 2+ years of experience as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in collegiate (or higher), professional, or tactical athletics; aerospace industry, test pilot/astronaut or similar man-machine high-performance environment.
  • Graduated from an Athletic Training Education Program, Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) AND Bachelor’s degree or higher in Exercise Science, Health Science, Athletic Training, Health Profession or Physical Educationrelated discipline.
  • Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) Current certification in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training.

Schedule:

The Contractor shall provide services primarily 7:00AM-4:00PM Monday through Friday and during 173rd Fighter Wing Regularly Scheduled Drills (RSDs). On scheduled night flying weeks, the standard times will fluctuate based on the flying schedule but will not be in excess of a 9-hour day. During the summer months, the night flying schedule could be as late as 3:00PM-12:00AM. At least two weeks’ notice will be provided if there is a required change to the standard operating hours. Non-standard hours may include Federal Holidays listed on the U.S. Office of Personnel management (OPM) website (opm.gov). No duty hours will be observed when the Government facility/installation is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government-directed facility/installation closings.
